The Australian Museum Research Institute brings together a team of 70 including research scientists, collection scientists, collection officers and more than 70 associates, fellows and students.
Their research focuses on some of today’s major challenges:
- climate change impacts on biodiversity;
- the detection and biology of pest species; and
- understanding what constitutes and influences effective biodiversity conservation.
The Institute's natural history collections underpin this research and are essential for biodiversity research, and one of the Institute's main assets is their use of wildlife genomics to solve key problems.
They hold 18 million objects in their collections and their research is made possible by significant scientific infrastructure including the Australian Centre for Wildlife Genomics and the Lizard Island Research Station.
